As the State of Georgia made planning decisions concerning future roads, highways and
transportation priorities, it was a Berry Academy graduate that provided leadership and input into
the decision making process. David Doss served as the 11th Congressional District's representative
on the State Transportation Board. David served on the Board from 2002 until 2011 and also
served a two-year term as its Chairman.
The 13-member State Transportation Board oversees policy, long-range planning and budget
matters for the Georgia Department of Transportation. Board members serve five-year terms and
they receive no compensation other than a per diem expense.
David is a native of Rome and arrived at the Academy in the fall of 1969 and graduated in 1973. He
is also a graduate of the University of Georgia.
David's business affiliations include the Georgia Association of Realtors and the National
Association of Realtors. In addition to serving on the Transportation Board, he is also President of
the Harvey-Given Company in Rome. He has also served on the Floyd County Commission.
David is a career child advocate, having served on the Board of Directors for Harbor House, a child
advocacy center. He also served as Vice Chairman of the Floyd County Child Abuse Protocol/Child
Fatality Review and worked with the Georgia Children's Trust Fund Commission.
