The Unofficial Website of Berry Academy and the Mount Berry School for Boys Mount Berry, GA
This Berry Academy website was created out of a desire to promote a Berry Academy reunion which took place in 2004 and the site continues to keep the memories of our years at Berry alive. The school was founded in January of 1902 by Martha Berry and soon became known as the Berry Industrial School. It later became The Mount Berry School for Boys and in the 1963-64 the school was renamed Berry Academy. The school provided a very special atmosphere for those who attended, not just an atmosphere for learning, but an environment that facilitated the growing and maturing of young boys into young men. And, at different times in the school's history, girls also attended and benefited from Martha Berry's vision. Martha's vision was to educate the whole person, "the head, the heart and the hands". Students worked in their after school hours, growing food for the dining hall, raising hogs, cattle, chickens and operating a complete dairy. Other jobs included working to keep the campus immaculate, cleaning the various buildings as well as cooking and serving three meals a day in the dining hall. Though non-denominational, all of Berry's programs were offered with a strong Christian foundation. The school closed in June of 1983, but this website will aid in maintaining the memories for years to come.
This website also gives Berry Academy alums a place to reconnect with classmates. There are many pages of pictures from class reunions of many different classes. After surfing through this website, I hope you will click on the "Send E-Mail" button below and send me a quick e-mail or post a message on our Message Board or sign our Guestbook. Let me know what you think and tell me how we can improve the site. We have found several "Lost" classmates and they have been excited to learn about their old friends and reconnect with their Berry past. I have addresses for many of the Berry graduates and faculty members. Maybe I can reconnect you with a long lost friend, your old Berry roommate or a faculty member that you want to contact.
Berry Academy most certainly had a beautiful campus, but it was our relationships and our shared experiences that made our years at Berry special. I hope you enjoy the website.
