In Memoriam
Marilyn Allen
Former Faculty and Staff
Mrs. Marilyn Rose Scott Allen, 84, passed away peacefully
with her family by her side on Monday, January 25, 2021. She
was born on July 13, 1936 in Wrightsville, Georgia to the late
Mr. and Mrs. Claude Daniel Scott. She was married to her
devoted husband, Dr. James Ray Allen for 65 years.

She and her husband served as a ministry team touching
untold numbers of lives in their 20 churches in the Carolinas
and Georgia. She shared her love of music and unwavering
faith working tirelessly beside her husband as the Minister of
Music, Youth and Children. In her later years, as she was
unable to serve in these capacities, she began a card and
phone ministry reaching out daily to her family, friends and
church families.

She received her undergraduate degree from Berry College
and her graduate degree from Furman University. She retired
after 40 years as a school teacher and librarian. She loved her
students and invested in their lives both inside and outside of
the classroom.

She was a devoted, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and
great-grandmother encouraging her family to live out their
faith, dream big, and be the best they could be. She is
survived by her four children: Melody Allen Lark (Sam) of
Pickens, Dr. Merrie Allen Johnson of Garner, North Carolina,
Rev. Scott Allen of Pickens, and Rev. Chris Allen of Wake
Forest, North Carolina; six grandchildren: Lindsay Lark
Jackman (Chris) of Greenville, Ashley Lark Heath of Pickens,
Mac Johnson (Grace) of Nashville, Tennessee, Murphy
Johnson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Emily and Molly Allen
of Nashville, Tennessee; and five great-grandchildren:
Malachi, Rosie, Noah, Larkyn, and Dax. She was
predeceased by her parents and two sisters: Melba Scott
Gaskins and Nanelle Scott. She was a member of Prater's
Creek Baptist Church.

The family would like to offer sincere gratitude and
appreciation to the staff of Manna Healthcare and Cottingham
House for the love and care they provided during the final
years of her life.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Easley First
Baptist Church in Easley, South Carolina at 2:00 PM on Friday,
January 29, 2021 with visitation preceding the service at 1:00
PM. A private Entombment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial
Park. Due to the current COVID-19 Pandemic, masks will be
required to attend the service and social distancing will be
observed in the sanctuary.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations
be made to Prater's Creek Baptist Church, 621 Praters Creek
Road, Pickens, SC 29671 or to the Church of your preference.
