Mr. Raymond Bowen, long time Industrial
Arts teacher at MBSB and Berry Academy
passed away on June 21, 2010 after a very
long battle with prostate cancer. He was 82.
Mr. Bowen was a graduate of the Mount
Berry School for Boys (1946), Berry
College (1950) and Middle Tennessee
State University. He was also a veteran of
the U. S. Army having served in the Korean
War. After leaving the service in 1954, Mr.
Bowen began a lifelong teaching career at
the Berry Schools.
As an industrial arts/technology teacher at
the high school and later the college, he
taught young men and women the craft of
woodworking. Many of his students later
became teachers and master craftsmen
throughout Georgia and the southeast.
When not with students, he could often be
found on the water enjoying his favorite
pastime, fishing. He was a member of the
Trinity United Methodist Church.
A memorial service was held Thursday,
June 24, at 1:30 p.m. at the Barnwell
