Franklin Hyers
Class of 1949
NORTH AUGUSTA, SC – (April 5, 1931- January 4, 2014)

Mr. Franklin Hyers, 82, passed away unexpectedly on January 4th at his
home. He was a native of Waycross, Ga., where he spent the early part of
his life as a teacher at Ware County High School. He graduated from Berry
Academy and Berry College in Rome and also lived there an additional 6
years, while serving as the Dean of Students at Berry Academy. He also
received a master’s degree in education from West Georgia College in
Carrollton. He spent a short time in Marietta as a teacher and 2 years in
Wadley as the principal of Bartow Academy. He relocated to North Augusta,
S.C. in 1972, where he lived the remainder of his life and served the
community as the principal of North Augusta Middle School before retiring in
1996. His combined experience as an educator in various school systems
totaled 43 years. He was a member of the Aiken County Administrators
Association, the South Carolina Association of School Administrators, and
Grace United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Hyers Jones of Waycross, two sons,
Timothy Hyers of Alpharetta, and Thomas Hyers (Andrea) of Blackshear, five
grandchildren, Hayley Jones, Grant Jones (Haley), Christian Hyers, Emily
Hyers, and Lorianna Hyers, two great grandchildren, Kaden Roell, and
Michaela Jones, two brothers, Chester Hyers (Margaret) of Blackshear and
Jay Hyers (Anisha) of Blackshear, one sister, Jakye McCall (Dan) of Ocala,
Fl., a stepmother, Darciele Hyers of Blackshear, and numerous nieces,
nephews, and other relatives.

He is the son of the late Jacob Clinton and Mary Ford Jordan Hyers and the
grandson of the late Crawley and Roxie Ford Jordan and Jacob and Ida
Henderson Hyers. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Calvin
Hyers, Sr. and Calvin’s wife, Jean.

He was very much loved by family, as well as many friends in his local
community, and he will be missed by all.
